We’re almost halfway through the year (isn’t that crazy?!). And I wanted to check in – how is your sustainable journey coming along? Are you using up all of your old products and then swapping for new zero waste products when ready?

Having a zero-waste lifestyle is not always easy, but as the journey continues, you will find out that it is so much more fun than you had imagined. Today I wanted to share some of my favorite zero waste swaps from our favorite sustainable marketplace: EarthHero. Think Amazon with a conscience. You can use EarthHero just like you do Amazon – but with EH, you know that the zero waste products are sustainable, ethical, and safe.

Our Favourite Zero Waste Essentials for a Greener Home:

This zero-waste vegan wax wrap is made of cotton-hemp fabric infused with consciously sourced soy wax, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and tree resin. It is handmade in the USA by a family-run company that is a partner of 1% for the Planet, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship. What I like about this wax wrap is it is washable (in cold water) and can be used over and over! Just wash and hang dry! It is also biodegradable, so when its usable life ends it can come back to Mother Earth. This product can replace plastic wrap and plastic sandwich bags with ease.

When the vinegar and baking soda aren't quite cutting it – you may need something like this concentrate in your pantry. This is super duper concentrated and all you need is a very small amount mixed with water in a spray bottle. This zero-waste cleanser is made from earth-friendly ingredients and pure essential oils. I have used these before for super hard to clean areas that my vinegar was just not cleaning. It is made in the USA and cruelty-free. These ingredients are proven to remove bacteria, grit, and grime.

This zero-waste home essential prevents micro-fibers from polluting our waterways via our washing machine. Simply put your synthetic-made clothing inside the bag, close it, and then wash as usual! It also protects your clothes from shedding so you can use them longer. The bag is made of untreated polyamide 6.6 and it can be recycled. What I love about GuppyFriend is that they don't just help to prevent micro-fiber to pollute our nature, they also donate part of profits to educate students, adults, and industries about this problem and also raise awareness on how to prevent it – or much better – stop it.

Always using wet wipes despite the unsustainability factor? We got you covered!! Introducing the DIY reusable wet wipes! It includes the jar, reclaimed cotton scraps to use as wipes, and the ingredients for making the wet wipes so you can make more. The ingredients are composed of essential oils for effective and eco-conscious wet wipes. It features several easy to follow recipes and is made from the USA. Because it is EarthHero approved, it means that it is one of the best-in-class products in sustainability. Why buy those wet wipes that don't decompose and are harmful to our environment when you can make your own! (p.s. you can also just make your own and skip buying this all together – but some of us do NOT have the crafty gene haha).

Made by an inspiring woman who loves the Earth and wanted to make it a better place. This air spray eliminates potential dust mites, fungal spores, bacteria, and old skin cells. Of course, everyone wants their room to smell great, and this air spray can give you that scent satisfaction without the toxic chemicals. It is made of organic ingredients and Earthy Edith's factory uses recyclable and reusable materials every step of the production. The bottle is recyclable with an optional plastic pump and an optional stainless steel funnel. In shipping, they use plastic-free packaging which means less waste when we receive it. Awesome right?

Excited for the next zero-waste home essential? Well, this zero-waste reusable Swedish dishcloth is a must in every home. You can use it in your kitchen and for everyday cleaning. Made from cellulose, cotton, and non-toxic dye – this dishcloth is sustainable and eco-friendly! You can wash it in the washing machine, its super absorbent, and dries almost instantly (when rung out). When its usable life is over, just put it in a compost bin. Redecker, the company that produces this zero-waste home essential, uses all-natural raw materials. Even the shipping packaging is recyclable, reusable, and plastic-free!

This Micro Manager Detail Scrub Brush is from Full Circle, a B Corp certified company devoted to making zero-waste and sustainable products that last! With this brush, you will never miss a spot. According to the reviews, this brush will absolutely get into that tight spot! The bristles, which are made of recycled plastic, are stiff and have a soft nib to clean while the bamboo handle has a remarkably nice grip. This brush provides deep cleaning for sinks, faucets, showerheads, and anything that needs a powerful scrub.

Who among you is guilty of using tissue excessively? This reusable tissue pack includes 6 GOTS certified reusable cotton tissues packed in a silicone case. The great thing about this silicon case is that it has a separator for the clean and used tissue so it will stay sanitary. Each tissue can be used 560 times, you just throw it in the washing machine to clean it – then it's good to go! p.s. – I own this in purple and blue and we are obsessed.

This mind-blowing soap saver bag extends the life of your soap! If you're anything like me, you'll like this bag because you just put the soap scrap inside the bag, wet it with water then scrub. It will produce a creamy, rich lather for cleansing and exfoliating your skin. Made with sisal fiber and wooden bead materials, this bag is entirely compostable. I really love this zero waste product for the bathroom!

Did you know that when organic waste is left inside a plastic bag it will not decompose properly and produces methane, a greenhouse gas 25x more harmful than carbon dioxide? That is why Biobag designed a zero-waste compostable bin-liner for your trash bin. Your organic waste will decompose properly with the bin liner (if you do not have a compost bin!). What's amazing in their design is they used plant-based resin as a substitute for synthetic plastic.

Charcoal Natural Shampoo Bar

This amazing zero waste shampoo bar by Plum Brilliance has some of the best reviews on EarthHero and we are super excited to give this one a try. Handcrafted with castor oil, tea tree, and bamboo charcoal – this product is known to lather beautifully! The castor oil helps balance your scalp's pH and undo damage while the tea tree keeps oil at bay. No sulfates, parabens, chemicals, or additives! (For our full zero waste shampoo blog post, head here!)

Made with cruelty free, vegan, and organic ingredients, this gorgeous cream blush contains beautifying plant oils to both hydrate and plump skin. I really hope this post has not only opened your eyes to zero waste product swaps, but it has also opened your eyes to sustainable marketplaces like EarthHero that we really should be supporting over big names like Amazon. By simply shopping better, we can truly make the world better. Lots of love to you all!

I love all of these! I’ve cut out shampoo completely, so I only use natural products and I’ve been using reusable bamboo pads for removing makeup. There are so many more great ideas here though! Thanks for sharing.

I am always looking for small changes I can make, and this post is super helpful… might starts with the cleaning concentrate you does it smell and how long does a bottle last you?

    • So so happy to hear! So one bottle lasts me upwards to 6 months to a year because I also use vinegar for cleaning as well. I like to infuse a bottle of regular ol’ white vinegar with some lemon and orange peels for 2 months in my pantry and then once it smells good, I mix it with half water in a spray bottle. That is my go to “daily – normal” cleaning spray and then I use the concentrate for the hard to clean or deep clean things like stuck on grease, bathroom, deep cleaning of the kitchen, etc!
