Looking for the absolute best non-toxic blenders with stainless steel blades and borosilicate glass, or stainless steel jars? We all want to be sure that no harmful substances leach into your food during processing.

But, unfortunately, it’s now always easy to find truly safe kitchen appliances.

The SKL team researched, tested, and ranked the safest BPA-free blenders without the California Proposition 65 Warning.

The options below are great for everything – including smoothies and ice, protein shakes, nut butter, and even baby food.

P.S. For more toxic-free kitchen appliances, check the safest tea kettles, and air fryers.

Best Bpa-Free, Non-Toxic Blenders to to Mix, Crush, Purée

If you were to ask me about the top three non-toxic kitchen swaps I can’t live without, I’d say a BPA-free blender, a PFAS water filter, and my plastic-free coffee maker.

Much like the other two devices, I use my blender every single day to whip up smoothies, creamy soups,  and sauces. So, it makes sense to choose one that is completely safe.

Regular blenders are notorious for containing hormone-disruptive chemicals that can be harmful to our health, with one of the most concerning being Bisphenol-A (BPA).

According to the Encyclopedia of Toxicology, when we expose BPA to heat or acidic foods, it can leach into the food or liquid being blended.

Shockingly, BPA can be found in every single meal-pre device and tool in our kitchen, including food steamers, cutting boards, and food storage containers

My (and experts’) best advice is to choose the safest food contact surfaces. There are two stellar options on the eco market – stainless steel and bossalite glass.

But even with these materials, some brands might withhold information to make their top-rated blenders appear less toxic than they truly are.

So, we did all the research for you and found the absolute safest and best non-toxic blenders on the market for every task.

Fresh fruits and vegetables? Check. Cooked ingredients like steamed veggies or roasted peppers? Check. Nuts, seeds, and grains? Double check.

With a non toxic glass blender, the recipes you can create are endless, and most importantly healthy.

Can blenders be toxic?

Yes, blenders can be very toxic for our health due to the materials they are made of.

Bisphenol-A (BPA)

As we mentioned above, BPA is a chemical, commonly used in the production of polycarbonate plastics found in blender jars and components.

When these plastics come into contact with heat or acidic substances during blending, BPA can leach into the food or liquid being processed.

Studies have shown that BPA can mimic the hormone estrogen in the body, leading to hormonal disruptions and potentially contributing to reproductive problems such as infertility, miscarriages, and birth defects.

Additionally, BPA exposure has been linked to an increased risk of certain cancers, including breast and prostate cancer.

If you really need to use plastic blenders, at least make sure that they are made from BPA-free Tritan plastic which is a type of copolyester plastic that is free from bisphenol-A (BPA) and other potentially harmful chemicals.

Phthalates

Phthalates are used as plasticizers in blender seals, gaskets, and other components. They are chemicals that can easily migrate into food or drinks, especially when exposed to heat or acidic conditions.

Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors, meaning they can interfere with the body’s hormonal systems and can cause reproductive abnormalities, developmental issues, and other health problems.

It’s been verified by doctors that exposure to phthalates has been associated with conditions such as reduced fertility, early puberty in girls, and adverse effects on the male reproductive system.

Metals In Blades

Stainless steel blades, while generally considered safe for food contact, may contain metals like nickel and chromium. These metals can be released into food or drinks if the blades corrode or degrade over time.

Chromium exposure has been linked to respiratory issues and skin irritation. Although the risk from blender blades is generally lower compared to direct skin contact with chromium-containing materials.

That doesn’t mean that all stainless steel blenders are unsafe. It simply means that you need to look for “nickel-free” or “chrome-free” 316, or 18/10 stainless steel options.

What are the safest materials for blenders?

Glass Blender

Glass blender jars are an excellent option for those concerned about chemical leaching from plastic materials.

Did you know? Glass is non-porous, inert, and does not react with food or drinks, making it a safe and hygienic choice for blending a wide range of ingredients.

Plus, it’s very easy to clean and does not retain odors or stains like plastic containers.

Stainless Steel Blender

High-quality stainless steel is another safe material commonly used in blender blades and components.

Unlike some other metals, stainless steel is non-reactive, corrosion-resistant, and does not leach harmful substances into food or drinks.

What’s more, stainless steel blades are durable, easy to clean, and suitable for blending both hot and cold ingredients.

BPA-Free Tritan Plastic

While I personally wouldn’t recommend choosing a non-toxic blender made of any type of plastic, BPA-free Tritan plastic is the least harmful alternative.

Tritan plastic is designed to be chemically stable, meaning it does not degrade or release harmful substances into food or drinks over time.

It’s also worth mentioning that blender jars and components made from Tritan plastic are less likely to break or shatter compared to glass containers.

What is the meaning of the California Proposition 65 Warning?

The best non-toxic blenders on the list don’t have the California Proposition 65 Warning.

But, what does it mean when a kitchen appliance or tool has it? It’s a law enacted in California in 1986 that requires businesses to provide warnings to consumers about significant exposures to chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

It’s worth noting that while the absence of a Prop 65 warning indicates that a product does not contain chemicals listed under Prop 65, it does not necessarily mean that the product is completely free from all potentially harmful substances. Consumers should still exercise caution and consider other factors when evaluating product safety.

What type of non-toxic blender should you choose?

Countertop Blenders: Ideal for customers who want versatility and power in their blending tasks, countertop blenders are great for making large batches of smoothies, soups, sauces, and more. Ideally, you’d want your non-toxic countertop blender to have many cool features such as glass or BPA-free plastic jars, powerful motors, and variable speed settings for precise control.

Immersion Blenders: Perfect for folks with limited countertop space, immersion blenders, also known as hand blenders or stick blenders, are handheld devices that can be immersed directly into pots, bowls, or cups to blend ingredients. Plus, they are very travel-friendly.

Personal Blenders: Personal blenders are compact, single-serve devices designed for blending smoothies, shakes, and other beverages on the go. If you are planning on taking it with you while traveling, make sure to opt for a non-toxic blender with powerful motors, and travel-friendly features like spill-proof lids and compact designs.
