After sleeping on the same mattress for over a decade, my husband and I knew it was time for an upgrade.

We wanted a mattress made with safer, preferably organic materials, and the Happsy Organic Mattress seemed like a great option at a more approachable price point. But reading online reviews left us hesitant. Several people described it as soft, and we prefer a firm, supportive bed.

Despite our hesitations, we decided to test the mattress paired with Happsy’s plush topper to see how it performed for ourselves.

After two months of sleep testing, the verdict is in: we love sleeping on this bed, and our initial worries about it being too soft are gone. That said, alongside a few pleasant surprises, we ran into some practical drawbacks, which I go into detail later in the review.

In this Happsy mattress review, I’m sharing our experience with setup, firmness, the optional topper, temperature, and how the bed felt after two months of nightly use.

SKL Happsy Mattress Rating At A Glance

  • Setup tested: Happsy Plush King mattress, with and without the separate King Happsy Mattress Topper.
  • Comfort: 10/10.
  • Materials: 10/10.
  • Quality: 9/10, with a point deducted for early indentations.
  • Ease of setup: 6/10.
  • Best for: Shoppers prioritizing organic materials who enjoy a responsive, supportive bed with optional extra cushioning.
  • What stood out: Hotel-level comfort and more comfortable mornings.
  • Good to know: Heavy to move, noticeable bounce, soft-feeling edges, and impressions in our sleeping spots after two months.
  • Quick verdict: One of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept on, but too early to give it an unqualified recommendation for long-term durability.

If you’re still weighing your options, I’d also take a look at our guide to the best non-toxic mattresses. I know how much research goes into choosing a bed, and having a shortlist can make the decision feel a little easier.

How I Tested The Happsy Mattress

My husband and I used the Happsy Plush King mattress and separate King Happsy Mattress Topper over two months of nightly sleep. We both move between our sides, backs, and stomachs, so we experienced the bed in several sleeping positions.

Hands pressing into the Happsy organic mattress topper to assess cushioning during the Plush mattress review.

I paid attention to the things that make a difference when you actually live with a mattress: how difficult it was to get into the bedroom, how it smelled out of the box, how firm it felt, whether the topper made it too soft, how warm we slept, and whether we disturbed each other during the night.

We also received it during unusually hot weather, which gave us a useful opportunity to see how the mattress and topper felt on warm, humid nights.

This review reflects our household experience. We did not perform instrument-based temperature, emissions, pressure-mapping, or motion-transfer tests, and two months cannot establish how the mattress will hold up over years.

We tested the Plush mattress, not the Medium Firm version. The King Happsy Mattress Topper was a separate addition; it is not what makes the mattress the Plush model.

What Is The Happsy Organic Mattress?

The Happsy is an organic latex hybrid mattress: latex provides cushioning, while pocketed coils provide the underlying support. Its construction also includes organic cotton and wool.

Happsy currently offers Medium Firm and Plush versions. You can add a separate topper to either one, so choosing a Plush mattress and choosing a topper are two different decisions.

That distinction matters when reading Happsy mattress reviews. A review of a different firmness or a mattress without a topper may describe a different feel from the setup you’re considering.

My Experience Unboxing And Setting Up The Happsy

A Naturally Sweet Smell Instead Of A Harsh Odor

The moment we unboxed the mattress, one detail stood out immediately: there were no harsh chemical smells that we noticed.

My husband said it smelled naturally sweet and clean, like cereal grains. At first glance, it also felt well-made, with a simple design and quality materials.

That was a pleasant first impression, though smell alone cannot tell us what a mattress emits. Our observation here is about the odor we noticed, rather than a measured off-gassing result.

Be Prepared For A Workout

If there is one area where Happsy could improve, it is the setup experience. Getting this mattress into place was hard, especially in a King size.

Happsy’s FAQ lists the King at approximately 128 pounds before the shipping box. It is an awkward item to move, particularly if you need to carry it upstairs.

It would have helped enormously if our mattress had side handles. Without them, maneuvering it was much more difficult than the weight alone might suggest.

We did not have a white-glove setup service for our delivery. I would arrange help in advance and think through the stairs, corners, and route into the bedroom before it arrives.

Happsy Mattress Firmness With And Without The Topper

Because we had read reviews saying Happsy was soft, we were pleasantly surprised to find our Plush mattress felt quite firm on its own.

I would put it on the firmer side of medium-firm, around a 7 out of 10. When I lay on the mattress alone, I felt supported and comfortable, without sore pressure points.

We assumed adding the topper would make the bed way too soft for us. Fortunately, we were wrong.

The topper provides a luxurious, sinking-in feel that I have really come to love, while the mattress underneath still feels supportive. It is like a soft, cozy hug, making resisting naps harder than ever.

With the topper added, I would put our setup around a 5 or 6 out of 10 for firmness.

These are my personal estimates for the Plush model we tested, rather than official firmness ratings. We did not test the Medium Firm mattress, so this is not a hands-on comparison between the two models.

Is The Happsy Mattress Topper Worth It?

For the extra comfort it gave us, I loved it.

The separate Happsy Organic Mattress Topper uses two inches of GOLS-certified latex inside an organic cotton cover. In our bed, it added the cushioning I hadn’t realized I would enjoy so much.

I especially liked how it molded to the curves of my body without making the whole bed feel unsupportive.

That does not mean everyone needs one. If you like the feel of your mattress alone, you may prefer to keep that firmer surface and spend less. The topper makes more sense if you want additional cushioning.

I also wouldn’t buy it as a solution to sagging. We noticed impressions in our sleeping spots despite using the topper, and this test does not establish that it prevents or fixes them.

Sleep Quality And Morning Comfort

My husband and I are all-over-the-place sleepers. Even with the new mattress, we continued moving between our sides, backs, and stomachs throughout the night.

What changed was how my body felt in the morning.

Hands rolling back the Happsy organic mattress topper to show its flexibility and the mattress underneath.

I especially noticed that my back and shoulders felt better supported. I no longer woke up with the stiff neck or lower back discomfort I had assumed was simply part of getting older.

While the mattress alone felt supportive, the topper added cushioning around the areas that needed it most for me.

That improvement was a big part of why I enjoyed this bed so much. It is my personal experience, though, rather than a promise that Happsy will relieve someone else’s pain or suit every sleep position and body type.

I ended up loving the extra cushioning, but you might prefer a different feel. If you’re still exploring, I’d point you toward our guide to the best non-toxic mattress toppers to help narrow things down.

Does The Happsy Mattress Sleep Hot?

We received the Happsy in the middle of an unusually intense heat wave. I was concerned that the topper, with its terry-like fabric feel, would be too hot.

It actually slept fairly cool for us. On humid nights around 75°F, the setup did a pretty good job.

I will say that if you run really hot, the topper may hold more warmth around your body than you would like. I noticed some of that heat retention myself.

This is by no means the coolest mattress I have slept on. But considering the warm, humid conditions, it held up well enough that temperature wasn’t my biggest complaint.

If cooling is your top priority, I would pay particular attention to how you sleep with the topper during the trial rather than assuming organic materials guarantee a cool night.

Motion Isolation, Bounce And Edge Support

You Will Notice Some Movement

This bed is quite bouncy, and motion isolation is not its strongest feature in our experience.

The King was large enough that my husband usually didn’t disturb me when he got up during the night. However, if I was awake and someone jumped into bed, I definitely noticed the movement.

I found that forgivable because of how comfortable the bed felt. A very light sleeper sharing with a restless partner might feel differently.

The Edges Felt Soft To Us

There also wasn’t a lot of edge support in our setup. We noticed it more during hot weather because we were spreading out toward the sides of the bed.

It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but it is something I would take seriously if you regularly sit on the edge or need a stable perimeter to get in and out of bed.

What I Noticed After Two Months: Early Indentations

There is one drawback I don’t want to gloss over. After only two months, I noticed sagging or indentations in the places where my husband and I sleep.

So far, the bed still feels comfortable. But I have noticed that we tend to gravitate toward the spot in the middle where it isn’t dipping in the same way.

I hope this does not bode badly for its longevity because we love sleeping on it. Still, this is the part of our experience that makes me cautious about a long-term recommendation.

I haven’t documented the depth of the impressions or established whether they are in the topper, mattress, or both. I also can’t tell from our experience alone whether they represent normal settling or a defect.

If you notice something similar, document it and contact Happsy while you’re still within your trial. A comfort concern during the trial and a defect covered by a warranty are different issues; don’t assume one automatically qualifies as the other.

What Makes Happsy An Organic Mattress?

I wanted more than a mattress described as “natural.” I wanted to understand what was inside it and what backed up the organic claims.

Happsy lists GOTS certification for its products and GOLS certification for its latex. Its certifications page also lists GREENGUARD Gold, MADE SAFE, and EWG VERIFIED for the mattress.

These address different questions. Organic-material and processing standards are different from emissions testing or ingredient screening. A collection of certification logos is most useful when you understand what each one covers.

Organic Does Not Mean Plastic-Free Or Chemical-Free

There’s a transparency detail worth knowing: Happsy discloses polypropylene coil-pocket fabric, PLA batting, and polyester thread alongside its organic materials. I wouldn’t describe the mattress as completely plastic-free.

Happsy also states that its mattress is made without polyurethane foam, fiberglass, glues, or added flame-retardant chemicals. Those are specific construction claims readers can evaluate, rather than a blanket promise that a product contains “no chemicals.”

For me, the disclosed materials and certifications are meaningful reasons to consider it. They don’t remove the need to check whether the bed is comfortable and practical for your household.

Happsy Mattress Price, Trial And Warranty

The mattress and topper are separate purchases, so compare the total cost of the setup you actually want.

Who I Think The Happsy Mattress Is Best For

I would put Happsy on your shortlist if you:

  • Prioritize disclosed organic materials and third-party certifications.
  • Enjoy a responsive bed and don’t mind some bounce.
  • Want a supportive mattress with the option to add cushioning.
  • Can arrange help moving a heavy mattress into place.

I would be more cautious if you:

  • Need very little motion transfer from your partner.
  • Depend on firm edge support.
  • Sleep very hot and are considering the topper.
  • Want a strong long-term durability recommendation based on this review alone.

As combination sleepers, we found it comfortable across several positions. I wouldn’t extend that to a universal recommendation for all side, back, or stomach sleepers without more testing across body types.

Happsy Mattress Pros And Cons

What I loved

  • Comfort that reminded me of high-end hotel beds.
  • A mattress that felt supportive, even with the cozy topper added.
  • More comfortable mornings for my back, shoulders, and neck.
  • No harsh odor that we noticed during unboxing.
  • Organic-material transparency and meaningful third-party certifications.

What I would keep in mind

  • Heavy and awkward to move, without side handles on our mattress.
  • A softer-feeling perimeter than I would prefer.
  • Noticeable bounce and some partner movement.
  • Some warmth from the topper during hot weather.
  • Early impressions in our sleeping spots after two months.

Questions You Might Have About Happsy

Does The Happsy Mattress Contain Fiberglass?

Happsy states that the mattress is made without fiberglass or added flame-retardant chemicals. That is a manufacturer construction claim; we did not destructively inspect the mattress.

Does Happsy Have An Off-Gassing Smell?

We didn’t notice a harsh odor. My husband described a naturally sweet, cereal-grain smell when we unboxed it. That is our sensory experience and doesn’t establish zero emissions.

Do You Need A Topper For The Happsy Mattress?

No. I found our mattress comfortable alone. I preferred the extra cushioning with the topper, but someone who likes a firmer surface may prefer to skip it. The topper also adds to the cost.

Does Happsy Sag?

We noticed impressions in our sleeping spots after two months. We have not measured them or isolated the affected layer, so I can’t say whether they represent normal settling or a defect. Our experience is a reason to monitor the bed during the trial, rather than proof that every Happsy will sag.

What Foundation Does Happsy Need?

Happsy specifies an evenly supportive foundation or compatible base. Its current mattress listing specifies slats no more than three inches apart. Check your frame before ordering; the warranty page warns that placing the mattress directly on the floor can void coverage.

Do You Need To Flip Or Rotate A Happsy Mattress?

Happsy says not to flip it and recommends rotating it every three to four months. We have not tested whether rotation changes the impressions we noticed.

How Soon Can You Sleep On It After Unboxing?

Happsy’s setup guidance says approximately 30 minutes after expansion, although full recovery from compression can take several days. Position the mattress on its base before opening the vacuum seal.

My Final Verdict: Is The Happsy Mattress Worth It?

The Happsy is one of the most comfortable mattresses I have slept on, rivaling beds at luxury hotels. The topper gave it that soft, cozy hug I didn’t expect to love, while the mattress underneath still felt supportive.

We look forward to going to bed every night, and the difference in how I feel in the morning has been a pleasant surprise.

The heavy setup, bounce, and softer edges are tradeoffs I can live with. The early indentations are the concern I’m less willing to brush aside, and I want more time before making a confident claim about durability.

If organic materials and comfort are your priorities, Happsy is worth it!
