Are you on the hunt for the best reusable baby wipes that are perfect for nappy changing, mucky hands, and faces? You are not alone!

It seems like 90% of options out there either contain harsh chemicals or contribute to environmental issues. Conventional wipes are made from non-biodegradable materials like polyester or plastic fibers, which means they end up sitting in landfills for years, contributing to pollution and harming wildlife.

Now, if you think that, in a single week, parents use around 40-70 wipes for diaper changes alone, you’ll quickly realize the sheer volume of disposable wipes being thrown every day.

Here, in the USA, 68 billion individual wet wipes are used every single year. Yikes.

Because I refuse to settle for anything less than the best, I made a roundup of the most splurge-worthy options after testing dozens of different organic baby wipes in our own home!

From bamboo baby wipes to washable cotton wipes, there’s something for everyone.

As parents, we want to trust that the baby wipes, diapers, nursing pillows, toys, and cribs we bring into our homes are designed with our children’s well-being in mind. We shouldn’t have to second-guess whether a product contains harmful chemicals, will break the bank, or if it meets safety standards.

Yet, time and time again, we hear stories of $5.00 for one pack of non-toxic wet wipes, recalls, controversies, and hidden dangers lurking in seemingly innocent products.

For instance, a study of products made for newborns, babies, and toddlers, found that 80% of products tested contained chemical flame retardants considered toxic.

Seriously, did you know that there might be phthalates in baby skincare products too? Let’s not forget that high levels of the “forever chemicals” known as PFAS appear in some baby textile products in new test results as well. Yikes! I believe that it’s enough to make any parent’s blood boil.

My best advice? Opt for reusable baby wipes made of certified organic cotton or bamboo fibers. Both crops are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers which means that these organic wipes are as pure and gentle as a newborn’s touch.

They’re hypoallergenic, absorbent, and oh-so-soft, making them perfect for even the most sensitive skin. I currently use them for my newborn daughter and couldn’t recommend them enough to new and experienced parents.

**And yes, I do keep a pack of non-toxic wet wipes on hand for on-the-go emergencies – it’s not all or nothing here! Using my reusable cloth wipes 90% of the time and my non-toxic wet wipes the other 10% is perfect for me.

What is the best material for reusable baby wipes?

When it comes to the best material for reusable baby wipes, organic cotton, and bamboo are two standout options that many parents swear by.

Organic cotton baby wipes are known for their softness and absorbency. They’re gentle on delicate baby skin and are often hypoallergenic because the raw material is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. You can read our organic cotton fabric guide to learn more about the benefits of this natural fiber.

Bamboo baby wipes offer a luxurious feel and exceptional durability. Bamboo fibers are naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic, making them ideal for sensitive skin. Plus, this is a highly sustainable material, as it grows rapidly and requires minimal water and pesticides. You can learn more about it here.

How do you clean reusable baby wipes?

It’s totally understandable to feel a bit hesitant about diving into the world of reusable baby wipes when you’re not quite sure how to clean them.

Spoiler alert– it’s actually way simpler than you might think! Here’s a quick list of my tried-and-true tips for taking care of your washable baby wipes.

  1. Pre-Treat Stains: It’s very important to tackle those stubborn stains head-on! If you notice any pesky spots on your baby wipes, don’t worry – a little pre-treating goes a long way. Grab a gentle stain remover (I use the truly free stain stick) or a mild, eco-friendly detergent, and give those stains a bit of extra attention before tossing your wipes in the wash.
  1. Separate Wipes From Diapers: If you’re a cloth diaper pro, you probably already know this trick, but it’s worth mentioning for the newbies: always separate your baby wipes from your cloth diapers before washing. This helps prevent any unwanted mishaps and you can rest assured that both your wipes and diapers get the thorough cleaning they deserve.
  1. Rinse or Soak: After each use, give your washable baby wipes a quick rinse in cold water to wash away any leftover mess. If you’re dealing with some particularly stubborn stains (we’ve all been there), consider soaking the wipes in a gentle solution of water and mild detergent. This will help loosen up those pesky stains and make the washing process even easier.
  1. Wash In The Washing Machine: Time to let your trusty washing machine do the heavy lifting! Toss your rinsed or soaked organic baby wipes into the machine along with your regular laundry. Be sure to use a gentle detergent, and opt for a warm or hot water cycle to ensure a thorough clean. P.S. Check the fabric care instructions for any specific temperature recommendations.
  1. Dry: Once your baby wipes have completed their spin cycle, it’s time to decide how you want to dry them. You can either air dry them by hanging them on a drying rack or line (bonus points for that fresh outdoor scent!) or toss them in the dryer on a low heat setting. Either way, your wipes will be ready for action in no time.
  1. Fold & Store: Once your wipes are dry and fluffy, it’s time to get them organized for their next adventure. Give them a neat fold and tuck them away in a clean, reusable baby wipes container (I personally use a heated one!), or wet bag until they’re needed again. Trust me, having a stash of freshly washed wipes at the ready will make diaper changes a breeze.

This was your full guide to the best reusable baby wipes!

There you have it – a complete list of washable baby wipes for newborns with sensitive skin. Sure, single-use wipes might seem convenient at first glance, but let’s be real – they are a major bummer for your wallet (seriously, those packs add up!), but they’re also a huge environmental hazard.

Think about it: All those wipes piling up in landfills, taking forever to decompose. Reusable baby wipes, on the other, hand will be with you for years. Instead of tossing them in the trash after one use, you simply give ’em a quick wash, and they’re good as new.

And unlike single-use wipes, our favorite cloth wipes are made from soft, organic materials like cotton or bamboo to provide a tender touch that’s free from harsh chemicals and irritants.

Plus, washable baby wipes are super easy to stash in your diaper bag or nursery, so you’ll always have ’em on hand when duty calls.
